Photo contest Capture the Vatnajokull Region
Over 200 photos were entered in the photo contest Capture the Vatnajokull Region which provided a tough task for the panel of judges. The photos can be viewed in two albums at the Vatnajokull Region´s Facebook site here.
Special prize was given for the most „liked“ photo on Facebook. The winning photo received 55 „likes“ and the photographer is Hólmar Hallur Unnsteinsson. Click here to see the photo. The winner will receive a trip for two to Icelands highest peak, Hvannadalshnjúkur, or a glacier walk with Glacier Guides, and a three course dinner with local food at Ósinn restaurant at Hótel Höfn.
Here below are the three best photos according to the panel of judges.
First prize: At Hvannadalshryggur – click here
The panel of judges thought that this photo showed best what the Vatnajokull Region stands for. In the photo a man is hiking in an adventurous scenery with Vatnajökull, mountains and clear blue sky in the background. The hiker, dressed in light and colorful gear, enjoys the wilderness alone in the world.
Photographer Einar Rúnar Sigurðsson will receive Canon EOS 1000D camera with 18-55 mm lens, boat trip on the Glacier lagoon (Jökulsárlón), and accommodation for two at Hotel Smyrlabjörg.
Second prize: Vestrahorn – click here
The panel of judges chose this photo because Vestrahorn mountain is a strong symbol in the area, and it is difficult to get such a beautiful photo of the whole mountain. This perspective gives clear and strong view of the mountain.
Photographer Páll Jökull Pétursson will receive a flight from Reykjavik to Höfn and back with Eagle Air, skidoo or jeep tour for two with Glacier Jeeps, and lobster dinner for two at the restaurant Humarhöfnin.
Third prize: Boy with ice – click here
The panel of judges thought that this photo appealed to families and it shows in a fun way how accessible Glacier Lagoon is as one of the area´s most beautiful nature highlites.
Photographer Fjóla Hrafnkelsdóttir will reveive dinner for two in Árnanes, Glacier Lagoon All year round - a book of photographs by Þorvarður Árnason, and accommodation for two at the camping site in Svínafell, Öræfi.
The Vatnajokull Region congratulates the photographers. We hope to see you all again soon in the Southeast of Iceland.
